The Terminator is a 1984 science fiction film directed by James Cameron. It was produced by Hemdale Film Corporation and distributed by Orion Pictures. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, a cyborg sent from the future to assassinate Sarah Connor, whose unborn child is destined to play a crucial role in a future war between humans and machines. Linda Hamilton plays Sarah Connor, while Michael Biehn plays Kyle Reese, a rebel soldier sent from the future to protect Sarah.

The film was a huge success upon its release and has become a classic of the science fiction genre. It has spawned several sequels, including Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015), and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019).
